About My Work

My work involves helping leaders interpret and navigate political environments that do not behave according to the official narrative of the organisation.

Women in senior leadership roles often operate in environments that are politically complex and highly scrutinised. Decisions are rarely evaluated purely on merit. The reputations people build, the alliances they form, and the influence they exercise behind the scenes often determine how decisions are interpreted and whose version of events prevails.

Many leaders encounter situations where the formal structure of the organisation doesn’t fully explain what is happening.

People within the organisation act in ways that contradict its stated values, alliances between colleagues influence decisions behind the scenes, and disagreement is reframed as behavioural concerns that influence how others interpret the situation.

These dynamics are difficult to interpret accurately from within the system.

When they are misread, the consequences can include reputational damage, loss of influence, or being positioned as the problem within the organisation.

My work helps leaders examine these situations carefully and test their experience against the underlying reality of the system.

How I Work

My role is to help leaders analyse the dynamics surrounding a situation and determine what is actually happening.

The work follows four stages:

  1. Analyse

  2. Map

  3. Design the intervention strategy

  4. Plan and execute the intervention

First, analysing the situation to determine whether what is being experienced reflects a misunderstanding, a structural dynamic, or a predictable incentive pattern within the organisation.

Second, mapping the relational and reputational terrain surrounding the issue. This includes identifying the actors involved, the alliances that influence decisions, and the sensitivities that shape how events are interpreted.

Third, designing the intervention strategy that allows the leader to respond effectively while maintaining credibility, authority, and long-term leverage.

Fourth, planning and executing the intervention, including preparing for anticipated responses.

What Makes This Work Distinct

Conventional leadership coaching often focuses on ideal leadership behaviour and assumes organisations operate according to their stated values.

My work focuses on how leadership functions in the environments that actually exist. The focus is relational strategy in politically charged environments.

This includes helping leaders:

  • interpret organisational dynamics accurately

  • anticipate how different stakeholders are likely to respond

  • communicate strategically without escalating conflict

  • maintain authority while navigating difficult situations.

Why This Matters

Senior leaders often reach positions of authority after years of operating in environments where competence and performance were largely rewarded. When the dynamics of an organisation begin to diverge from its stated values, it can be difficult to determine whether what they are observing reflects a misunderstanding or a shift in how the system actually operates.

Misreading those dynamics can carry significant consequences, including reputational damage, loss of influence, or being positioned as the problem within the organisation.

Developing the ability to interpret these environments accurately allows leaders to maintain authority, protect their credibility, and respond strategically when tensions emerge.

In politically charged organisations, relational and political literacy shapes how your authority is exercised and sustained.
